Women for Education, Freedom and Textiles (WEFT) is a non-profit organisation supporting Karen, Chin, Kachin, Lahu, Kayin and Mon refugee women on the Thai-Burma border and displaced women in Burma to earn a fair living wage from their handmade and traditionally loomed textile products. We began simply by volunteering three years ago with refugee women's groups along the Thai-Burma border. As a Sydney-based organisation, we endeavour to support these women's groups by buying their textile products and selling them in Australia.

WEFT’s collection ranges from scarves, cushions and bags to children’s clothing, table runners and beautiful woven fabric. At the heart of the collection are natural dyeing, backstrap looming, appliqué and culturally unique embroidery. Every WEFT purchase creates much-needed income for refugee women and their families and finances textile development workshops we facilitate on the Thai- Burma border.
